Please join us for our July meeting featuring several topics and speakers from the FBI, the NCFTA, and InfraGard. We are continuing the return to in-person meetings. This will be a hybrid event at NYC and Long Island locations and will include Teams access for remote attendees.

Topic title: The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3)

Brief topic summary: Over the years, the cybercrime landscape has broadened from non-delivery schemes and credit card fraud to ransomware and data breaches costing both individuals and businesses billions of dollars each year. The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) is the FBI’s reporting mechanism for suspected cybercriminal activity. Agents and Analysts pour through thousands of complaints each day to build investigative referrals for law enforcement agencies throughout the country. In this presentation, learn about reported cyber-enabled crime trends, the complaint process, the FBI Recovery Asset Team, and the FBI efforts to address cyber-enabled crime.

About UC L. Wes Quigley
Unit Chief Wes Quigley manages the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) for the Cyber Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The IC3 receives approximately 2,500 complaints daily and actively supports a variety of local, state, and federal investigative agencies.
Prior to his selection as the Unit Chief for the IC3, Supervisory Special Agent Quigley served as the team lead for the FBI, Criminal Investigative Division, Financial Crimes Section staff assigned to the IC3.
Before coming to the IC3, SSA Quigley served as an SSA at the Criminal Justice Information Services Division, National Threat Operations Center, was a Supervisory Senior Resident Agent in the Pittsburgh Division, Charleston Resident Agency Office, and has been assigned as a Special Agent in the Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Cleveland Field Offices.

About David Weissman
David Weissman is a member of ISC2 and holds the CISSP working for the FBI Computer Analysis Response Team (CART), New York Division. He is also an FBI CART certified examiner and leads or assists in digital forensic examinations relating to crimes involving the Internet, mobile phones, computers , and other digital devices. David is a Ph.D. candidate at Colorado State University in the Systems Engineering Department with ongoing research in cybersecurity. He holds a Master in Business Administration (MBA), Master of Science and Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, all from Boston University. David has worked in advanced technical, business, and financial professional capacities for 25+ years involving both government and commercial sectors.
